Quilt top preparation tips:

  1. Press quilt top (free of wrinkles) and make sure all seams are pressed flat.
  2. Trim all threads, dark threads will show through lighter fabrics on quilt top. It will give the unsightly appearance of "varicose veins".
  3. Stay stitch ¼ inch around the perimeter of the quilt top - this keeps the seams from coming apart.
  4. Check all seams to make sure they are intact. The quilt top is slightly pulled on the machine and weak seams will pop open.
  5. If there is a directional print or if requesting a pantograph, please indicate the top of your quilt.

Quilt back preparation tips:

  1. Quilt back must be at least 4 - 6 inches wider and 4 - 6 inches longer than your quilt top.
  2. Press backing ensuring that it is free of wrinkles.
  3. Are all seams pressed flat and pressed open..
  4. Trim selvages from the backing fabric. This is extremely important - if not done it will create excess fabric in the center of the quilt.
  5. If there is a directional print, please indicate the top of the backing - pin a piece of paper that indicates top.

Borders:

Make sure that you attach your borders properly. *Measure across the center of your quilt (width) and cut the border to fit that length. Then mark both the border strip and the quilt edge in eighths. Match the marks and ease the quilt into the border. Repeat from * for quilt length. If you do not your quilt may not be square and have dog ears - corners are wider than center.
