Custom Longarm Machine Quilting (since 1998)

Longarm quilting is the process by which a longarm sewing machine is used to sew together a quilt top, quilt batting, and quilt backing into a finished quilt. Almost all designs are hand drawn or free motion. With this in mind, the end results are not computer perfect but rather a one-of-a-kind look found in antique quilts.

Quilt Preparation Tips:

  1. Press quilt top and back (free wrinkles) and make sure all seams are pressed flat.
  2. Trim all threads, dark threads will show through lighter fabrics on quilt top. It will give the unsightly appearance of "varicose veins".
  3. Stay stitch 1/4 inch around the perimeter of the quilt top - this keeps the seams from coming apart.
  4. Check all seams to make sure they are intact. The quilt top is slightly pulled on the machine and weak seams will pop open.
  5. If there is a directional print or if requesting a pantograph, please indicate the top of your quilt.
  6. Trim selvages from the backing fabric. This is extrememly important - if not done it will create excess fabric in the center of the quilt.
  7. If there is a directional print, please indicate the top of the backing - pin a piece of paper that indicates top.
  8. Borders: Make sure that you attach your borders properly. * Measure across the center of your quilt(width) and cut the border to fit that length. Then mark both the border strip and the quilt edge in eighths. Match the marks and ease the quilt into the border. Repeat from* for quilt length. If you do not your quilt may not be square and have dog ear's - corners are wider than center.

To calculate price: prices are calculated on square inch. Multiply the length of the quilt top by the width of the quilt. (Ex: 72" x 92" = 6624) Then multiply by the cost of the type of quilting. (Basic pantograph - 6624 x .02 = 132.48 or $132.48, custom quilting - 6624 x .035 = 231.84 or $231.84) This will give you an estimate on the cost of the quilting. I will calculate all expenses and let you know once I receive your quilt.

Quilting prices include thread and will be matched to your quilt top as close as possible or based on your selection. The same color thread is used in both top and bobbin. I do carry speciality threads, there will be an additional thread charge.
